    Parenting Skills Classes


    (Enrichment)

    The Mission Parenting Class promotes the development of healthy and life-affirming values, knowledge, and interaction between adults and their children. A key program component is using a culturally and spiritually sensitive approach essential toward strengthening the family unit.

    While services will be available to anyone with an interest in improving their parenting skills, our target audience will consist of care givers of involvement with the Criminal Justice and Protective Service Systems. The indentifying risk factors include domestic violence, alcohol/substance abuse, and child abuse/neglect.

    ACTIVITIES

    The program Parenting Class will include the following:

  • Group Discussion and Lecture
  • Role Playing and Modeling
  • Subject-related Videos
  • Educational and Literacy Support
  • Referral for Supportive Service and Aftercare

    Anger Management

    Anger is closely linked with stress, emotional crisis, and felt inabilty to effectively reslove conflict. Increasing rates of aggression and violence throughout society including the family, workplace and schools makes it crucial to develop positive strategies for addressing this issue. This class will allow participants to learn new and constructive ways of overcoming anger.

    1. First identify the real source of your stress or anger.
    2. Let go of thing you cannot control.
    3. Unrealistic expectations.

    Beating Odds Mentoring Workshop

    Youth ages 9 – 17 10-week workshop designed to promote self-esteem and focus on skills that enhance their lives and their relationships
    Workshop objectives include:
    1. Learn to treat others with honor, dignity and respect
    2. Developing self-confidence, pride, sensitivity and social responsibility
    3. Purpose and origin of manners (first impressions, common courtesy and respect, introductions and conversation and etiquette)
    4. Effective communication
    5. Assertiveness skills
    6. Personal awareness and integrity
